Franklin R. Myers Scholarship
Active Citizens for Responsible Sustainability, Inc. (ACRES) is pleased to announce a $500 scholarship to a deserving NJ graduating high school senior who intends to study environmental science, conservation, biology, landscape/horticulture, sustainability, urban planning, park administration, forestry, or a related environmental or scientific field.
The Franklin R. Myers Scholarship was established in 2015 to honor the memory of the late esteemed educator and conservationist, Franklin R. Myers. For over thirty years as a biology teacher at Bernards High School, this visionary educator inspired and motivated a generation of students in conservation, land stewardship and wildlife management principles.
As creator of New Jersey’s first-in-state living laboratory–BHS Nature Trail and Wildlife Sanctuary–on the school’s six-acre pocket woodland, Franklin Myers’ passion for teaching and preserving the environment encouraged young minds while serving as a role model for the community. The successful multi-curriculum program was recognized as a prestigious school and community project for decades.
ACRES, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization was founded in 2013. We work as a catalyst to help educate and inspire individuals and community groups to seek environmentally sustainable land use practices. ACRES supports educational efforts to promote and protect rapidly vanishing pocket woodlands. The existence of these woodlands heightens our awareness that man and nature are inextricably linked.
